Mary L. Stephens, formerly Mary Lancaster, was born in Flowery Branch, Georgia on August 12, 1919, died April 22, 2013. Mrs. Stephens had made Marietta her home for the past 62 years where she raised her four children and worked at Kennestone Hospital as an O.R. Tech for 28 years. Many will remember Mrs. Stephens’ deep love of her country which prompted her to write many an artfully conservative letter to the editor of this newspaper. Mary loved to garden and inspired friends and neighbors to begin their own gardens with her generous gifts of shrubs and perennials-and who can forget freely harvesting the fruit of her many fig trees. The members of Hope Presbyterian will remember Mary for her abiding love of the Lord Jesus Christ and as the steadfast matriarch of the faith who began that new church plant from a bible study fellowship in her home. Mrs. Stephens is survived by her three children, Maxwell Bolding of Meadville, PA, Susan Baron of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Stephen Bolding of Marietta, as well as her eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Mary was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Phoebe Griffin of Hiawassee, GA. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24th at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta (770) 424-4924. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25th in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Reformed Theological Seminary and the American Bible Society.
