Bombing symptom of society’s loss of hope

DEAR EDITOR:

What’s most tragic about the never-ending horrific things happening today is that our politicians, our news media, our intelligentsia and the population at large take such care to avoid discussing the true and great issue of our time in the West — loss of hope.

For whatever reason — perhaps the wish that this issue will go away if we don’t mention it — we prefer to gnash our teeth and to throw our hands up in despair over our agony rather than do something about it.

Anyone who has ever known complete loss of hope can readily tell you that people who have hit such a wall are willing to do these things because they have nothing to lose. America and the West refuse to develop a vision for a positive future that could change all this. Why?

Unless Western Civilization creates such a vision that shows there is a path to a positive future with hope for prosperity and a better life, such things as the bombing of the Boston Marathon and all the deadly shootings will continue. It’s really that simple.

But what about the great Obama? Is he not HOPE personified?

Not working out too well for you is it?

I am appalled by this letter writer's moral equivocation and naivete. Firstly, Muslim terrorists are more likely to be from means. The young men who bombed the Boston Marathon were in this country as guests on a full academic scholarship to one of our best universities. They commit these acts NOT out of hopelessness, but out of supremicist world view and desire to force their religion down the throats of the west, fully believing that if we won't accept their militant ways and dominant posture, we deserve to be maimed and die. Yes, even our most innocent children. Their egos are huge, they believe they are martyrs for their cause. Do you remember BESLAN??? Go look it up, and then start giving credit to our freedom and capitalism and the hope it's provided around the world for centuries.
