County Manager David Hankerson is advising the Cobb Board of Commissioners this morning to hire Ann Flynn as the emergency communications manager, the person in charge of managing the county’s 911 system.

County Chairman Tim Lee said Flynn has served as the interim manager since the February retirement of former manager Tony Wheeler.

“She’s grown up in the system,” Lee said. “She knows the system well.

“She’s respected by her peers, not only within Cobb County, but within the cities and the state that she needs to coordinate with, and she has a strong reputation with the region in terms of her strengths and her ability to make a good program.”

The position has a salary range of between $75,899 and $123,323. Flynn’s salary has not yet been set.

As interim manager, Flynn earns a salary of $83,268.

The position oversees a staff of 125 with a yearly budget of $10.6 million.

In other county personnel business, the Cobb Board of Tax Assessors recently appointed Stephen White as director and chief appraiser.

White has served as interim director since Jan. 1, when Phil Hogsed retired.

He began his career with the county in 2005 as a senior appraiser responsible for the management of all office staff appraisers before being promoted to deputy chief appraiser in 2010.

White receives a salary of $92,682.
