SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A bald eagle is recovering from claw marks and bruised wings after being rescued from a Savannah landfill.
State Department of Natural Resources officer Chris Moore tells the Savannah Morning News the eagle was about 2 years old and was unable to fly. A veterinarian says the bird likely sustained the injuries in a fight with another eagle.
Department of Natural Resources officials say Chatham County is home to the largest bald eagle population in the state with 25 nests. The eagle was the third to be found sick or injured in the county within the past six months.
One was found with lead poisoning in November and another was found with an upper respiratory infection. Both eagles were rehabilitated in South Carolina.
