Head to the Marietta Square tonight for the 6th annual First Friday Art Walk where all the arts come alive. Art Walk is expanding to include performing as well as visual arts. Held the first Friday of the month, April through October, the rain or shine event is a free, self-guided tour of Marietta’s burgeoning art scene.

“Marietta is becoming known for its eclectic, artistic vibe and the First Friday Art Walk is a perfect way to enjoy it,” said Theresa Jenkins, executive director of Marietta Visitors Bureau.

Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques host artists within their stores and are open 5 to 9 p.m. Dates are today, May 3, June 7, July 5, Aug. 2, Sept. 6 and Oct. 4. Look for an official Art Walk banner in the window to identify participating venues. Performance artists will also be based throughout the Square.

Art Walk maps are available at participating merchants, Marietta Visitors Bureau, Art Walk sandwich board signs and online at www.artwalkmarietta.com. Register to win a “Hip to be Square” $50 gift certificate (redeemable at any participating merchant) at Marietta Wine Market, the Marietta Trolley Company, the Earl Smith Strand Theatre or the Cobb-Marietta Museum of Art.

New this year to Art Walk is Tavern in the Garten, a beer and wine garden located in Atherton Square featuring music, beverages and sponsor vendors. Art Walk Ambassadors (Marietta High School students and members of the Marietta Kiwanis Club) wearing Art Walk aprons will direct people during the event and answer questions.

With all its opportunities, Art Walk provides a unique focus on the arts unlike anything available in metro Atlanta.

“The arts have become an important segment of the Marietta Square and Art Walk is a perfect example of how the arts mesh with the businesses on the Marietta Square,” said Donna Krueger of dk Gallery.

Parking is available on the Square, in the Mill Street lots and in the Cherokee Street Parking Deck (free that evening). For detailed information about parking and the event, visit www.artwalkmarietta.com or call (770) 429-1115.
