ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Housing Authority’s chief is perhaps best known for tearing down Atlanta’s housing projects, but she’s also one of the nation’s highest paid public housing officials.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that a five-year contract has CEO Renee Glover’s salary at $325,000. But records obtained by the newspaper show that other members of Glover’s management team are also paid handsomely.

About 10 percent of the agency’s employees make more than $150,000 a year and nearly 20 percent earn more than $100,000. Data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development show that only 3 percent of public housing executives nationwide pull in more than $155,500.

Glover defends the salaries, saying they’re necessary to attract high-skilled managers. Critics say the high salaries are exorbitant.
