“The fare is cooked to order. We are over-the-counter. We have no liquor, no belly-dancing and no hookah. We do food only so we can stay consistent that way,” said Sam Mousa, who owns the restaurant with Emad Deeb, district manager/owner.
“We have Mediterranean cuisine — Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines—Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Syria, Lebanon,” said Mousa who was born in small village north of Jerusalem. After being schooled in Jordan, Mousa came to Chicago. He’s worked as a chef in several restaurants.
Quality is important at Mediterranean Grill. “The way we prepare our menu, we are very serious about our ingredients and making the food fresh daily. We cut our own meat. We go to the farmer’s market and pick our own produce. We buy our own meat. We grind the meat. We cut the meat,” Mousa said.
Quality means consistency at Mediterranean Grill.
“We buy nothing ready. Everything is made here on the premises. We buy nothing from outside. We try to stay consistent. We keep working hard to satisfy every person who comes through that door because we want everyone to walk out of here with a good experience, satisfied and happy,” said Mousa who moved to Atlanta from Chicago in 2000.
Mousa and Deeb opened their first location in Decatur in 2001, a second in Midtown Atlanta and then expanded to Marietta.
“The clientele in east Cobb is savvy and they know their food and they appreciate something like Mediterranean Grill,” he said.
“(Cobb County) doesn’t have anything like this. It adds to the mix,” he said.
Known for their lamb shank, kabobs, gyro and hummus, Mousa recommends that first time guests try the business lunch served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. if they like meat. It consists of a generous portion of shish kabob, kufta kebab, and gyro slices served with rice pilaf, salad and pita. Includes a soft drink.
For vegetarians, he recommends the vegetarian plate of homemade hummus, baba ganouj, crisp falafel, tabouleh and salad.
“(Guests) will like Mediterranean Grill because it is a different fare. It’s healthy, tasty and good portions with low price,” Mousa said.
Mediterranean Grill is open on Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Catering and delivery is available.
