New vendor to debut at spring farmers market

The newest vendor in this year’s Marietta Square Farmers Market said family, friends and the community are who convinced him to bring his handmade pastas to the local market.

Mike Patrick, who owns and operates Storico Fresco Pasta in Atlanta, is one of 60 vendors who will be featured in the 11th annual spring market on the historic Marietta Square each Saturday and Sunday between April 6 and Dec. 21.

“We had quite a few customers who said we needed to come up here because it’s really busy, and it’s a great place to be,” Patrick said.

His booth will be replacing longtime vendor Joe Costa with Costa’s Pasta of Kennesaw that market director Johnny Fulmer said decided not to return to the spring market this year.

Storico Fresco is a handmade pasta company that uses 17 different flours and 27 variations to make pasta.

Patrick said they use local ingredients from organic farmers as well as ingredients purchased directly from Italy to make their pastas.

His love for the culinary arts began as a child watching his mother and grandmother cook, but it wasn’t until three years ago while visiting Italy that he decided to “resurrect” some pasta recipes that were in danger of being lost forever.

“Some of the pasta recipes are falling to the wayside, and I want to teach and educate the community about those pastas,” he said.

With vendors like Patrick participating, Fulmer said he believes this year’s market will be the “biggest and best.”

The market will be open on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and noon and on Sundays from noon to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

The Sunday market will feature 30-plus vendors – about two-thirds from Saturday’s group along with various others.

Vendors will sell homegrown vegetables, cheeses, breads, eggs, fresh flowers, local honey, baked goods, meats, mushrooms, herbal soaps, pies, jellies, jams and preserves, and natural and organic dog biscuits.

When word of Storico's Culingionis pasta spreads through the local church crowd, Storico Fresco may be chased out of Cobb by an angry mob carrying torches and pitch forks!
