The federal government had an excess of rifles, and loans them to local law enforcement agencies, City Clerk Dawn Davis said. Powder Springs officials will relay to the federal government that the two rifles are still needed and in use. The feds require the agreement to account for all the loaned rifles, Davis said.
Officials also voted to authorize the mayor to repay Cobb County grant funds. The city used Cobb County Community Development Block Grant funds to renovate the Ron Anderson Recreation Center nine years ago and made a commitment to the county to give back portions of the funds over 10 years.
Powder Springs will pay back $45,785 this year and will complete payments in 2014, Davis said.
City Council also tabled a public hearing for an alcohol license for La Parilla restaurant. The hearing is April 1.
