Residents have faith in Goreham

DEAR EDITOR:

After being born and raised in the Athens area, I have had the privilege of raising my family for 10 years in Marietta, followed by 10 years in west Cobb. During that time I have watched as County Commissioner Helen Goreham has competently dealt with a myriad of complicated issues on behalf of the citizens of District 1, not the least of which has been the smart growth and development of her district.

The latest focus by the MDJ on the North Cobb town hall meeting, hijacked by the always colorful and forever contentious D.A. King, attempts to lend credibility to King and his extremist supporters rather than the difficult issue of how best to ensure compliance with the system already in place to verify worker eligibility. Unlike the citizens quoted in your article, I think the majority of Ms. Goreham’s constituents, including myself, have faith in her resolve and ability to tackle this difficult problem just as she has many others, head on and with integrity.

Ms Gunn,

Your second paragraph shows me that you know little of the issue of jobs taken by illegal immigrants and the cost of that to Americans. Also, your description of D A King and his supporters is probably what the Tories said about our Founding Fathers and those who wanted to protect America.

Ms. Goreham's assistant, Annnette Friant, made news when she complained about a fruit and vegetable stand and Ms. Goreham should have recused herself in the vote to deny the permit but chose to go ahead and be the deciding vote.

Ms. Friant viciously told Billy Inman that he should stop talking about the death of his only child and paralysis of his wife because of a drunk illegal alien who has successfully escaped capture by leaving the hospital when he had no guard. Ms. Friant cruelly told him that children die all the time and he needs to get over it.

This is the Helen Goreham who claims to represent West Cobb. Ms. Friant still is employed by taxpayers as her "assistant".

It's very nice that you like Ms. Goreham, Ms. Gunn, but the fact is we don't have faith in her. She has betrayed us and our interests for those of chambers of commerce, developers, landscapers, etc.

In fairness, they probably made more noise. Politicians don't live in vacuums. Either the people are involved, or they're not. They will pay the most attention to whomever makes the biggest noise and provides the most dough.

Meanwhile, does anyone know what happened to all those indigenous craftsmen from only 20 years ago? All new construction is being built by men who were not born here. That's amazing. One never sees a story about the men who used to do this same work. Did they die?

You get the booby prize, Ms Gunn, for calling D.A. King an "extremist" simply because he has become an expert on the issue of illegal immigration and is fearless in calling out politicians who talk out of one side of their mouth and essentially lie about their stand on the issue when it's expedient and/or will benefit them financially in some way.

We are also constituents of Ms. Goreham and were pleased with her representation in the past, but no more. She has sold out to the chamber of commerce bigwigs, completely abandoning her Republican law and order roots in order to make slave labor accessible to the big businesses that run Cobb County.
