A Marietta man remained hospitalized Monday after a weekend wreck that left him in critical condition.

Kyle Lysaght, 22, was riding in the passenger seat of a Lexus when the driver of the car and the driver of a Toyota Tacoma collided about 5 p.m. Friday on the corner of Johnson Ferry Road and Woodlawn Drive.

Lysaght was considered to be in critical condition at the scene, according to Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce. He was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

The driver of the Lexus, 22-year-old Matthew Baske of Alpharetta, and the driver of the truck, 49-year-old Zeferino Trejo of Kennesaw, were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Pierce said.

The accident happened as the result of Trejo’s turning left onto Woodlawn Drive from Johnson Ferry Road and crashing into the passenger side of the Lexus, Pierce said.

The Lexus then hit a utility pole, injuring Lysaght. Pierce said witnesses noted traffic signals in both directions were green, and the turning vehicle was supposed to yield.

As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed regarding the crash, and no fatalities were reported since Lysaght’s arrival at Atlanta Medical Center, Pierce said.

Lysaght is a hockey player at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The Marietta Daily Journal was unable to reach Lysaght’s parents and coaches for comment regarding his condition Monday.

This description cannot be correct. The truck was going south and hit the pole on the right. This is a dangerous left turn going north on Johnson ferry onto Woodlawn with NO turn signal.

Can you check and will Cobb provide a turn signal.
