Museum Director Jan Russell said marketing has become a major focus of the museum staff, and they’ve increased their outreach through social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
“In the last two months, multiple people have told me our museum had the best social media presence they’d seen with museums,” Russell said.
During a museum board meeting Tuesday, member Thomas McBrayer said the board has about $6,000 to work with in the general fund, and the recent Hearts for Heroes event was a near sell-out. Profits from the event are expected to total about $8,000. Hearts for Heroes benefits the aviation wing, Russell said.
Russell, with the help of board members, will be applying for a grant for the third year to add to the financial cushion, she said.
In other business, the museum received a donation of records of physicians whom the staff is researching, Registrar Christa McCay said.
