Prep Roundup: Watson perfect for Allatoona

Allatoona senior T.J. Watson pitched a four-inning perfect game in his season debut, leading the Buccaneers to a 15-0 win over Campbell on Wednesday.

Watson (1-0) struck out nine and batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs to earn the victory. It was the first perfect game and no-hitter in team history.

Chris Patel had two hits and two RBIs for the Buccaneers (3-1), who had 10 hits and scored four runs in the first inning, six in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth.

Alex Terry had a hit and three RBIs, while James Leggett had two hits.

Allatoona will host Region 5AAAAA rival New Manchester on Friday.

Lassiter 6, Harrison 2: The Trojans played host to the their county rival and came away with the win.

On the mound for Lassiter (3-1) was Tim Eber, who pitched six innings and had nine strikeouts. Cornell Nixon led the way for the Trojans from the plate, going 1-for-2 and scoring two runs.

Harrison (2-4) also struggled with five errors from its fielders.

Lassiter will travel to North Carolina this weekend for a pair of games in the Asheville area. Harrison will host Walton tonight.

Pope 15, Osborne 0 (5 inn.): An eight-run first inning set the tone for the Greyhounds, who cruised to the Region 7AAAAA road win.

Pope (2-3, 1-1) hit three home runs on the night, from Nathaniel Lowe, Jared Parker and Wes Smith.

Lowe, who also got the win as the starting pitcher, was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Brett Lyle was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Carl Williams was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Patrick Wiseman was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Pope will host the first-year varsity program of Cambridge on Friday. Osborne (1-3, 0-3) will host Northview on Friday.

Marietta 10, Cherokee 1: The Blue Devils scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised to the non-region victory.

Bradley Piggee went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. He reached base twice in the first inning.

Travis Wildermuth was 2-3 with an RBI, and Jordan Mathis had a single.

Gabe Friese went five innings, holding Cherokee to four hits and one run, while striking out seven.

Marietta (4-2) will host Woodstock on Friday.

South Cobb 6, Paulding County 0: Avery Williams struck out nine and allowed just one hit in a complete-game effort.

That hit, with one out in the sixth inning, was all that prevented Williams (1-1) from throwing a perfect game.

From the plate, Tyler Minkinnen was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Tyler Randles and Allen Few were each 2-for-4, with Randles contributing two runs and Few an RBI.

South Cobb (4-2) will travel to Union Grove today.

McEachern 12, Wheeler 3: Sam Stephens went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Indians.

Jared Walker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Phil Tucker batted in three and pitcher Dalton Geekie went 2-for-4 with two hits in the game.

On the mound, Geekie pitched four innings with seven strikeouts, two walks, three hits and no earned runs.

McEachern (6-0) will host Collins Hill today.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pope 10, North Springs 0:
The Lady Greyhounds’ offense unloaded on their Region 7AAAAA rival forcing a mercy ruling that ends the game after a team scores 10 goals.

Only one half was played.

Leading the way for Pope (2-1-1, 2-0) was Jessie Sexton with four goals and two assists. Jordan had two goals and an assist, while Alex Grace netted a goal and two assists. Parker Schroedel had a goal and an assist, with Ana Elias and Taylor Meneide also scoring.

The Lady Greyhounds will travel to play Riverwood on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Walton 14, Harrison 5:
Up three at halftime, the Raiders continued to pull away and won the non-area game at Bruce Cobleigh Stadium.

Jack Whittaker had a game-high five goals. Michael Gernatt added four, Josh Perretz and Dylan Boast each had two and Ryan Jones had one. Gernatt and Perretz also had two assists apiece, with Boast contributing one.

Jake Hornberger’s 11 saves led Walton (3-1), which will host Peachtree Ridge on Friday.

Harrison (1-4) will host East Coweta for an Area 1AAAAAA game Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Lassiter 25, North Cobb 3:
Already with 13 goals at halftime, the Lady Trojans kept piling on in the Area 2AAAAAA road game.

Eleven players scored for Lassiter (3-0, 2-0), led by Johnna Fusco, who had four goals and two assists. Jill Rankin added four goals, while Alana Abbott had three goals and two assists.

Annie Christian also had three goals, while Alex Fusco, Mary Carter Putman, Lindsey Whitten and Lucy Mills each had two.

Lassiter will host Tennessee state champion Hutchinson today.

Kell 11, McIntosh 9: The Lady Longhorns trailed 5-4 at halftime, but scored the first three goals of the second half to earn the non-area win at home.

Emily Swift had four goals and one assist, and Haley Swift had four goals and two assists to help Kell to an 11-7 margin late in the contest.

Katie Kunberger, Gina Ives and Leslie Ferguson each had one goal.

Hannah Rosen stopped six shots for Kell, which is at Sprayberry on Tuesday.

BOYS TENNIS

North Cobb 3, Kennesaw Mountain 2:
Rohman Mitchell broke a 2-all tie with his 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, giving the Warriors the Region 4AAAAAA victory at home.

Jaryd Reese lost two games at No. 1 singles for North Cobb (3-0, 1-0), while Andre Canino captured a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

The Mustangs earned points from their doubles teams. Matthew Ganney and Justin Thomas won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Matthew Osajime and Michael Deatrick were also 6-2, 6-2 winners at No. 2

North Cobb is at McEachern today.

Walker 5, North Cobb Christian 0: Alan Norsworthy’s shutout at No. 2 singles provided one of the five points for the Wolverines in the Area 4A match.

Derrick Brown allowed two games at No. 1, as did Austin Newsome at No. 3 and the No. 2 doubles team of Daniel Sosnovsky and Trey Tumlin. Will Chocallo and Sloan Coolbroth won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Walker (3-0, 1-0) will host Class AAAAAA county rival Harrison today.

GIRLS TENNIS

Walton 5, Milton 0:
The Lady Raiders only dropped one set in the Region 5AAAAAA matchup.

Suzanne Zenoni and Johanna Keeline allowed one game apiece at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Katie Riley and Jessica Cramer.

Erica Bauer won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Anne Gaskins and Sheena Mookerji won 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Walton (4-0, 2-0) will host Etowah today in another region match.

Kennesaw Mountain 5, North Cobb 0: The Lady Mustangs dominated the meeting of Region 4AAAAAA and cross-town rivals.

Samantha Armas and Nicole Croxton each allowed one game in singles play, while Chika Okonkwo had a shutout at No. 3.

Marilyn Corn and Samantha Maddin won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Katie Manrowe and Mallie McNeel won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

Kennesaw Mountain (3-1, 1-0) will travel to South Cobb today. North Cobb (1-3, 0-1) will host McEachern today.

Allatoona 5, South Paulding 0: Kennedy Craig set the tone with a shutout at No. 1 singles, as the Lady Buccaneers won the Region 5AAAAA match easily.

Allison Whitley only allowed two games at No. 2, with No. 3 singles player Haley Proctor and the No. 2 doubles team of Kat Pugh and Kristi Cooper allowing one apiece. Melanie Whitley and Katie Hulsey won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Allatoona (3-0-1, 3-0) will continue region play today at Cass.

Walker 5, North Cobb Christian 0: The Lady Wolverines did not lose a set in the Area 4A match.

Amitha Muthiah set the tone for Walker with a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles, while Audrey Cunningham won her match 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Closing the deal for Walker was Mia Pattillo, who won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.

Caroline Kunetz and Holly Parkins were forced to a super tiebreaker after a 6-4, 2-6 start. However, the Walker duo won the tiebreaker 10-5. Finishing off doubles for Walker was Leigh Norsworthy and Gabi Champion, who won 6-3, 6-1.

Walker (2-1, 1-0) will face Harrison today.

BOYS GOLF

Walker 168, North Cobb Christian 203:
Michael Arkin shot 39 over nine holes at Cobblestone Golf Club to lead the Wolverines’ win.

Joe Reich shot 40, Allen Perez 44 and Johnny Hsu and Barrett Kulik each had 45.

Adam Morris topped North Cobb Christian with a 40.

Walker will face North Cobb Christian again Tuesday, this time at at Marietta Country Club.
