Prep Roundup: Mount Paran girls state their case for state berth

The Mount Paran Christian girls made a strong case for a state playoff berth, beating Excel Christian 56-35 in Monday’s first-round game of the Region 6A tournament.

The Lady Eagles (15-7) entered the game ranked ninth in the Class A private-school power rankings, needing to finish in the top 16 to garner a spot in the playoffs.

Mount Paran set the tone early, taking a 27-12 lead over Excel into halftime.

Brianna Brown led with 23 points and Taya Welch had eight. Defensively, Shannon McGeary’s 13 rebounds and Ashley Cook’s three steals boosted the Lady Eagles, who will play Gordon Lee in Wednesday’s quarterfinal.


Kennesaw Mountain 2, River Ridge 1:
The Mustangs rallied from a 1-0 deficit to win their season-opening game.

Down at the break, Kennesaw Mountain (1-0) got a pair of unassisted goals from Alejandro DelAngel and Felipe Silva.

Alejandro Aguilar and Taylor Cotton combined to make seven saves for the Mustangs, who will host Allatoona on Wednesday.


Allatoona 3, Kennesaw Mountain 1:
The Lady Buccaneers’ first game as a Class AAAAA program was a victorious one.

Aleiya Armstrong, Willough Davis and Suzanne Arafa all scored for Allatoona (1-0), with Arafa providing a pair of assists.

Miranda Creagan made 10 saves for the Lady Buccaneers, who will travel to Marist on Feb. 20.

Kennesaw Mountain (0-1) will host Hiram today.
