Child struck by truck after leaving school bus

PEMBROKE, Ga. (AP) — A 5-year-old is recovering from serious head trauma after authorities say the child was struck by a truck after stepping off a school bus in Bryan County.

The Savannah Morning News reports that the accident happened Thursday afternoon, just outside of Pembroke.

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said the child was leaving the school bus around 4 p.m. on Georgia Highway 119 near the intersection of Wildwood Church Road.

Smith said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

Pembroke is about 30 miles west of Savannah.
