Mt. Bethel Christian Academy packs meals for hungry kids

Nearly 600 Mt. Bethel Christian Academy students, faculty, staff, parents and grandparents packed 100,000 meals, or double what they did last year, for hungry children Friday morning as part of a new service project called ‘You Fed Me.’ Students in kindergarten through eighth grade formed assembly lines in the school gym to prepare each meal bag, which includes six servings per packet and contains rice, vegetables, soy protein and 21 essential vitamins and nutrients in a dehydrated form. Jackie Grasty, the school’s director of advancement, said the project cost $25,000 and that school parents and the community helped pay for the program. She is not sure where the packets will end up this year but believes they will be sent to an African country. ‘Servant leadership is so much a part of what we do here,’ she said. ‘This reinforced what we’re all about.’
