Rachel Roddy Thomas, 90 of Mansfield, Texas passed way on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel in Marietta with her nephew, Rev. Harden Hopper officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. A Reception follows burial at the son’s home on Cherokee Street in Marietta. Rachel was born on September 17, 1922 in Mableton, Georgia. She grew up in Atlanta with a large family. She graduated from high school and attended The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1943 she married William Lawrence “Dick” Thomas and remained his devoted wife until his death in 1982. She enjoyed reading and gardening, decorating and dancing. Rachel was a woman of impeccable elegance, grace and courage. She will be lovingly remembered for her warm heart, welcoming home and her unfailing devotion to her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Roddy T. Hiser & husband, Glenn G. Hiser; son, Karter Roddy Thomas & wife, Marsha Brown Thomas; grandsons, Karter Roddy Thomas, Jr. & wife, Shelly; Andrew Stuart Thomas & wife, Bethany; one great grandson, Karter Roddy Thomas, III and grand-dog, Chubby Hiser. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. before the service at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta.
