George W. Sarrett, age 86, of Smyrna passed away at home January 18, 2013. He was a facilities engineer at Lockheed Georgia Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed woodworking and crafted many cherished pieces of furniture, but his main interest was investing in the stock market. Mr. Sarrett grew up in Kirkwood in east Atlanta and attended Tech High School. Years later he enjoyed attending the Kirkwood Boys’ reunions. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his bride of 64 years, Caryl, and daughter, Kay (Thomas T.) Borden of Marietta; sisters, Marlene O’Brien of Snellville, GA and Dianne “Dee” (Martin A.) Ross of Bristol, TN; nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded him in death, Carl (Christine) Sarrett of Gainesville, FL, Ed (Mary) Sarrett of Loganville, GA, and Robert L. “Bob” Sarrett of Winter Springs, FL. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25 at Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King St., Smyrna, GA, burial at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
