Charles Emmett Gafnea, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2013, at the age of 93. Charlie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary O’Dell Gafnea, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Laura Gafnea, of Rome, Georgia, granddaughter, Megan Rhinehart and her husband, Matthew Rhinehart, and great-granddaughter, Lauralei. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Gafnea White. Charlie served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, and was a lifetime member of the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club. He was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, where he was a member of the EEE Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held from 2-4 o’clock at the Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, Smyrna, Georgia, 770-435-4467) on Friday, January 25, 2013, and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00 o’clock at Westview Cemetery with Dr. Charles Qualls officiating.
