After 31 years, Steve Day coached his final wrestling match at Lassiter on Wednesday, and his wrestlers sent him out with a nailbiter.

With their retiring coach looking on, the Trojans held on by the slimmest of margins to beat Centennial 37-36.

The win was clinched at 182 pounds, where Lassiter’s Connor Shields scored a pin. The Trojans then lost two of the final three weight classes, but Shields’ pin provided Lassiter with enough of a margin to prevail at the end.

Paul Pelletier (120) and Zac Daly (138) also had pins for the Trojans. Marc Bramlett (170) won by decision, A.J. Pelletier (126) by major decision, and Winston Troughton (106) and Andrew Powell (220) each won by forfeit.

With the Region 5AAAAAA traditional championships set for next week, Lassiter’s wrestlers will tune up in a 32-team tournament Friday and Saturday at Pickens.

Pope 63, Cambridge 13: The Greyhounds improved to 33-3 in dual matches after downing their Region 7AAAAA foe on senior night at the Hound Pound.
