Given all of the problems we face right here and now, it seems nothing short of ridiculous that anyone in our state Legislature would think it relevant to waste the time to pass a resolution showing remorse for slavery. I would give odds in a bet that most, if not all, of the pastors who requested such a resolution are of African descent. They are doing nothing more than trying to build the groundwork for a future demand of restitution for something that happened to their ancestors 150 years ago. All that the resolution sponsor (state Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville) is attempting to do is to lock up the African-American vote to ensure his re-election for as far as the eye can see.
My ancestors were not even living in this country when slavery was in practice here. They were busy living as slaves to unforgiving royalty in Europe. They chose to leave to find a better way of life. So why should I apologize for what someone else’s ancestors did to the Africans in America? Maybe those who still feel put upon for what happened to their ancestors should follow the advice of one of their own, Bill Cosby, to shut up, grow up and go look for work.
If we feel it imperative to show remorse to anyone in our history, why don’t we show remorse to the American Indians for destroying their society, killing their ancestors, stealing their lands and forcing them to live on reservations forever? Why don’t we apologize to Mexico for stealing Texas and California from them by force and claiming them for our own purposes?
I am sick and tired of listening to the whining of current-day African Americans about what happened to their ancestors 150 years ago. I’m just as sick and tired of even hearing the word “racist” whenever an African American doesn’t get his way or even preferential treatment. I have worked for the betterment of African American children in education for most of my life. By and large, I lost. I think they would be way ahead of the game if they would just grow up, shut up and look for work.

The FACT is, that if african's still want anyone to apologize for their past, present and future condition they need look no further than to their own black people in africa who, as history has proven, were the first to sell their own people into slavery in the first place. You do read history books, don't you?
My suggestion for you is to quit the name calling and trite and banal name-calling and limit your comments to an opinion of the subject at hand...rather than to other opinion posters. Should you learn to do this, you just might be taken seriously at some point...although I truly doubt it.
You people just don't get it. Slavery was LEGAL in the United States. It was LEGAL to own other human beings as property. Can you not comprehend what that means?
Jim's crying about fighting in wars or his family being figurative slaves to the harsh economy are not relevant when we are talking about actual, real, legal, institutional, literal, slavery.
Why are you people so obtuse?
Look this way folks. This is the American buffoon. He's been neutered of his manhood and lobotomized of his ability to think and reason. He's now completely harmless and will respond to any of my commands. There was a time when this species was bold, brave, independent and fearless but as you now observe he's as gentle as kitten and as obedient as a cocker spaniel.
That's what you meant, right Jim?
The groups I mentioned have been deprived of their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by our very own government, and there is no statute of limitations that prohibits governments from accepting responsibility for past atrocities.
GET LOST, Mr. Stoll.
Exactly what is a slave? Someone who produces work and effort and receives no compensation.
