Reader opposes raises for county officials

DEAR EDITOR:

The MDJ reports that Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee “hasn’t heard any opposition to the (proposed 3 percent raises for local officials) from local residents.” Allow me to be the first local resident to voice opposition regarding Lee’s abject insensitivity toward those of us living in dismal, oppressive economic situations.

Thank you, Commissioner Bob Ott, for opposing this blatant insult.

Government officials should not be allowed to vote themselves a raise. Maybe the issue should be put on the ballot in March when the next special election will be held.

I am just wondering if anyone has bothered to investigate the pay raises the commissioners and elected officials have received since county employees have???? Wonder if anyone has bothered to compare what the Cobb County Tax Commissioner makes verses what she made 6 or 7 years ago. Isnt' this information that would be interesting for all tax payers to find out and see why there is no services offered in Cobb anymore???? We have "career politicians" who get comfortabe and never have opposition so they grow a hefty retirement, a very rarely even report to their offices. Their salaries are only a small part of the benefits the reap..... they take gifts and financial favors from banks, business's and business owners in exchange for "what?" I hope the few "new" commissioners will stand their ground and clean up Cobb, as they promised. Cobb was once a leader and a highly respected municipality. Now it is a joke. So Mr. Lee, why don't you attend the town hall meeting this week and take a poll on how many tax payers support your pay raises???/ Might be a smart thing for you to do, Sir.
