A Marietta man who previously made headlines for allegedly using drugs and then getting behind the wheel is facing a long list of charges after allegedly attempting to flee from an officer and then trying to run the officer down near Towne Lake on Jan. 5, arrest reports show.

Codie Khanamakhom, 21, was charged in the latest incident with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, theft by receiving a stolen gun, possession of a firearm during a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, failure to maintain lane, fleeing and attempting to elude and aggravated assault on a police officer, according to an arrest report.

A pound of marijuana and $2,800 were also recovered during the Jan. 5 arrest, deputies said.

In the latest arrest, Khanamakhom was pulled over around 1:38 a.m. on Jan. 5 after failing to maintain lane while heading southwest in a black Dodge Charger on Sixes Road near East Shore Drive.

Though Khanamakhom began to slow down as he turned onto East Shore Drive, he did not stop and then increased speed in an attempt to evade the officer, according to an arrest report.

The Charger finally came to a dead end at a cul-de-sac, where an officer pulled out his weapon and pointed toward the vehicle.

According to Officer Nicholas Timms’ report, he ordered the driver, later identified as Khanamakhom, to turn off the vehicle, take the keys out of the ignition and drop them out the window.

“After yelling this, the vehicle immediately started coming backwards,” Timms wrote. “I yelled several times for the driver to stop the vehicle and I moved left to get out of the way.”

The vehicle then collided with Timms’ patrol car and stopped, and a black male, later identified as Darius Jones, ran into the woods after being ordered to stop.

Khanamakhom and 19-year-old Lucero Jaime, also of Marietta, were both instructed to lie on the ground and complied. Khanamakhom was hand cuffed and the officer secured a backpack he saw lying on the street before backup arrived, the report said.

Inside the backpack, Timms reported finding a container containing a “substantial” amount of marijuana and “a lot of” cash.

Also located inside the vehicle was a set of digital scales, a case that included small plastic bags and a hand gun that was reported stolen from the Chamblee Police Department. All of these items, including the backpack, were turned over as evidence.

Khananmakhom was also the driver in an April 2, 2010, accident at the intersection of Towne Lake Parkway and Eagle Drive that caused a motorcyclist to lose his right leg, police reports show.

Police attempted to locate Jones during a search of the woods by members of the K-9 Unit, but he was later located on the 600 block of Redwood Lane where he lives with his parents.

All three were transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center where they are still in custody with each of their bonds set at $68,355, Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jones was charged with obstruction and theft by receiving a stolen gun. Jaime was charged with theft by receiving a stolen gun and possession of a firearm during a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

Jaime, along with Khanamakhom, was additionally charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute through the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad.

According to the report, Khanamakhom was charged with the aggravated assault because he directed the vehicle in the officer’s direction after being told to stop.

“I was outside of my vehicle and if hit it would have caused serious injury or death,” Timms wrote in the report.
