MACON, Ga. (AP) — A Macon man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the death of his ex-fiancée who was doused in gasoline and set on fire in August of 2005.
The Telegraph of Macon reports 36-year-old Jomekia Pope was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for an arson charge in the death of 26-year-old LaTosha Taylor.
Pope earlier this month pleaded guilty to the charges and prosecutors initially sought the death penalty against the man.
Authorities say Taylor was hospitalized in a burn unit for 55 days before she died of her injuries.
