Man killed after being hit by car trying to cross Floyd Rd.

MABLETON — A Mableton man was killed after being hit by a car early Sunday morning, police said.

John W. Kelly, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Jason C. Bentley, 30 of Atlanta, while Kelly was trying to cross Floyd Road at White Boulevard, Cobb Police Officer Mike Bowman said in a news release. Police said Kelly was walking in an easterly direction and wasn’t using a crosswalk when he was hit by Bentley, who was driving southbound on Floyd Road.

While the collision, which was reported just after 3 a.m., is still being investigated, Bentley is not expected to be charged, police said.

Kim, Candice and Austin our thoughts and prayers are, truly, with you and the rest of your family. I have been speechless for a few days, because I stopped to talk with John, Jr. earlier on Saturday. May GOD bless the Kelly family!!

I have had the pleasure of knowing the Kelly family for over 10 years now and they are all extremely good people. John Kelly,Jr is now in heaven with his father (John Kelly,Sr) who passed away late last summer from a long battle with cancer. Please pray for Kim, Candyse and Austin in the coming days and months. We love you all!!
