Womble was suspended with pay in December after a serious assault in the detention center that led to investigations into the facility’s incident reporting standards. Officials say Womble was dismissed Monday because at the time of the assault, he was serving a yearlong probationary employment period after juvenile inmates escaped from the facility.
James L. Reid, who has a law enforcement and military background, will serve as assistant director for security. Donnell Collins, who also has a law enforcement and military background, will serve as captain of corrections officers.
Niles says he plans to name a new director in early 2013.
