WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama is "actively supportive" of efforts on Capitol Hill to reinstate an assault weapons ban.

Obama has long backed the ban, but has failed to push for it throughout his first term. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., plans to introduce legislation to reinstate the ban early next year.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama would also support legislation to close the gun show "loophole," which allows people to buy guns from private dealers without background checks.

The president has pledged to address gun violence in the coming weeks following Friday's deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

Obama spoke Tuesday with West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a conservative Democrat and avid hunter who is now supportive of a national discussion on preventing gun violence.

Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world.

NEW DELHI (AP) — The hours-long gang-rape and near-fatal beating of a 23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi triggered outrage and anger across the country Wednesday as Indians demanded action from authorities who have long ignored persistent violence and harassment against women. If someone on the bus had a hand gun that wouldn’t happen or women had guns that wouldn’t happen.

When assault rifles are outlawed, they will become valuable, and only rich guys called "collectors" will have assault rifles! And they will lock them in a gun safe!

There is constant turnover in the ownership of these assault rifles that run as low as $120 for the Made In China versions.

Basement dwelling schmucks pawn their assault rifles so they can buy the latest video game.

The construction crew guy who lost his job pawns his assault rifle collection first (he only bought them to impress the coworkers anyway).

Criminals steal them out of cars and apartments (that Mitt, he was right about apartments) and steal them from each other and sooner or later the cops get the stolen ones.

So yes, there are a bunch of these things out there, but they constantly churn, and it would not be too long before they are not such a clear and present danger to each and every one of us, even you, guy with the handgun under your couch, your pillow and another in your glove compartment. You are very macho and everything, but even you are in danger.

911 only marks the crime scenes you are were on their own as you will be if a group storms your house in a nice safe part of Cobb County. You will be the minute man defending against the Red Coats or Zombies’. I’m sure the drug dealers wouldn’t increase the amount of illegal arms they bring into the country if all out ban on weapons is in place. Would you think twice about breaking into a house in Kennesaw Georgia bet you would more than twice. Once you give something up to big government it’s over just ask Australia about that the outback is ruled by criminals as always because of a lack of armed citizens’!! Just look at Eastern Europe and Western Europe who has guns the cops and the military they can pull you over and do whatever they want to and you know that.

Banding guns does not work, it did not work from 1994 until 2004 and it again will not work! All the band did was increased the cost of guns and ammo. It did not stop crime; people still were robbed, shot, and murdered. Criminals and people with the intent to commit acts of violence do not care about the law; they will do what they want regardless of the law. If people want to protect themselves, then they need to be ready to take action when necessary. If someone in the mall was legally armed with a firearm, then they could’ve ended the situation before someone was killed. Passing laws that bands gun ownership only hurts the law abiding citizens not the criminals or people with mental health issues because these people do not care.
