ATLANTA — A special election has been scheduled to fill Chip Rogers' seat in the state senate following his abrupt resignation.
The Secretary of State's office confirms that the special election is scheduled for Jan. 8.
Rogers, a Republican from Woodstock, announced he was leaving the state senate Tuesday for a job with Georgia Public Broadcasting. He is slated to lead a radio show focused on Georgia business and economics.
He was elected to the state senate in 2002 and represented District 21, which covers parts of Cherokee and north Fulton counties.
Two candidates have already announced their intention to seek the seat.
