KENNESAW — Delta Sigma Company of Kennesaw was awarded the 2012 Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award, presented by the United States Department of Defense at The Defense Manufacturing Conference in Orlando. The award recognizes team members whose projects demonstrated outstanding technical accomplishments in achieving the vision to realize a responsive world-class manufacturing capability to affordably meet war fighters’ needs throughout the defense system life cycle.

Delta Sigma Company created the new technology called ProjectionWorks to save aircraft manufacturers hundreds of hours. It is an ISO 9001:2008 registered company started more than 20 years ago by designing and building specialized radar cross section measurement equipment, and has since added aircraft manufacturing tooling and other automation processes.

Smyrna gains E85 station

SMYRNA — E-Z Trip Chevron, Indore Oil Company & Protec Fuel have opened an E85 station at 3601 Atlanta Road in Smyrna, off Interstate 285 at Exit 18 (Paces Ferry/Vinings). E85 is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline that can be used in flex-fuel vehicles, as can gasoline. Protec Fuel, based in Florida, has partnered to help manage the E85 installation and help provide fuel for the location’s new cleaner burning fuel offering of E85.

* Mountain Motorsports has opened a new dealership in Marietta and is hosting a Christmas Charity Auction on Dec. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new location at 780 Cobb Parkway South Marietta. Motorcycle industry-affiliated items will be auctioned with all proceeds benefitting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital. Companies such as Monster Energy, the Atlanta Falcons, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, Dixie Stampede, Parts Unlimited, Fox Racing, Shoei and many more have already donated items for the auction.

* Appleton Learning, an innovative approach to academic coaching, test prep, and online homework help has opened at 4250 Roswell Road Suite 610 in East Cobb. A grand opening is planned for the first week of January.

* Traton Homes is now selling homes priced from the mid $300,000s at Scott Farm located on Due West Road. The community features 27 single-family homes, with 11 of the homes being built by Traton Homes.

* South City Kitchen Vinings was named “2012 Restaurant Partner of the Year” by Cobb Travel & Tourism at its “Spot On” Awards ceremony, which took place Nov. 15 at the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History.

Bank of America delays fees

NEW YORK — Bank of America is postponing an increase in monthly fees for checking accounts, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

The paper cited unnamed people familiar with the bank’s plans saying that the new fees would be delayed until at least late next year.

T. J. Crawford, a spokesman for the Charlotte, N.C., bank, had no comment on the story Saturday.

Bank of America Corp. has been testing new fees in a pilot program in Georgia, Massachusetts and Arizona. The bank has been charging between $6 and $25 per month depending on the type of account and level of service.

Banks are moving to collect more in fees as low interest rates make it harder to make money from lending.
