DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said Monday the man had not been identified and police hadn’t decided whether to file any charges in the Sunday incident.
According to a police report, a man was caught shoplifting two DVD players from the store about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. He ran out when confronted, but three workers caught him outside. The police report says a store security guard put the man in a choke hold and told him to tap if he couldn’t breathe.
When officers arrived, the man was unresponsive and limp. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
