SMYRNA - Cobb Police are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a car on South Cobb Drive Sunday night but said they don't expect to charge the driver.

According to a release from Cobb Police, Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez, 55, of Smyrna was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive in a westerly direction and not in a pedestrian crosswalk around 7:45 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Waldrep Circle when the driver of a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee hit him heading southbound.

Zamarripa-Perez was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and pronounced dead upon arrival.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as 63-year-old Nafisa V. Sheriff of Marietta and while the wreck is still under investigation, police do not expect to charge him, the release states.

Anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.

Below is what is stated on the website when posting a comment. Obviously, MDJ does NOT review the comments or the one above would not have made it to this section. Half of them are not even from Mexico and you have to be from Mexico to be called a Mexican. What a shame to breathe the same air as some of you racist fools!

Give it a rest, 'ashamed.' The MDJ does a nice job of letting their readers voice their opinions. It doesn't make you a 'racist fool' by calling someone a Mexican. How about, 'I live in this area and you see Hispanics crossing in this area all the time.

Does that make it better for you?! The bottom line is the man wasn't in a crosswalk or paying attention and now an innocent driver has to live with the fact he hit a man and he's dead. That's the real problem. 'Local resident' is right. There are an amazingly high amount of people, aka Hispanics/Mexicans, who are darting in and out of traffic, many with babies and small children, as if it's a game. I'm sure you'll start screaming RACISM if they are ticketed for jaywalking or disobeying simple traffic laws. I'm sure you don't think they need to learn our language, but they should be able to grasp the concept of a crossing walk, a red hand to dictate STOP and a white light of a person walking to indicate GO. Oops, you probably think that's racist, too!

What happened to writing tickets and fining people for jaywalking? Or is that frowned on because the vast majority of those jaywalking are minorities? No.... I'm not being racist just being observant, ask my wife, she hears me complain every time I see "anyone" crossing somewhere other than designated crosswalks.

Well it is very hard for the local politicians to engineer themselves any sweetheart deals from writing jaywalking tickets, so nobody writes jaywalking tickets.
