The Paulding County Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized a March 19 referendum on whether to allow package sales on Sundays by retailers of package malt beverages and wine.
The city of Hiram allows for Sunday alcohol sales, but the city of Dallas has not taken any action on the matter.
“It’s expected to be less than $20,000 to do that,” said County Manager Mike Jones of the election.
Commissioners had planned to vote on the resolution in time to put it on the ballot for the Nov. 6 general election, but an oversight regarding the amount of time a resolution like this must be submitted to the state by law forced the board to wait. Jones said he took responsibility for the oversight.
If Paulding voters choose to allow Sunday sales, Jones said the law will go into effect April 5. This will allow for sales only in unincorporated Paulding County.
The board also unanimously passed a resolution designating furlough days and the closure of government offices four days during fiscal year 2013.
The furlough days will be Nov. 12, 2012, Veteran’s Day; Monday, Dec. 31, or New Year’s Eve; Feb. 18, 2013, President’s Day; and May 24.
