MARIETTA – Two men engaged in what is believed to have been a non-fatal shooting at Southern Polytechnic State University left the scene before police arrived Tuesday evening.

Police were contacted at about 6 p.m. Tuesday and alerted to an incident where one man shot another in the parking lot of the university’s Engineering and Technology Center, said Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin.

“It was reported that a victim was shot and then left in a vehicle possibly to seek medical attention,” he said.

The suspect was last seen running on foot in a different direction.

“We just want everybody else to know that since this actually took place on a college campus that this was not directed as any type of retaliation or anything else,” Baldwin said. “This was just strictly an isolated incident between two people.”

The investigation is pending.

University spokeswoman Sylvia Carson said the campus was placed on lockdown for about an hour before it was lifted.

“All the area local hospitals have been notified if anybody comes in with a gunshot wound,” Baldwin said.

The people who did not realize that the crime announcement was real are stupid. When SPSU runs test announcements there are stated to be tests. The common sense was lacking Tuesday.
bad guy

That is Mariettas jurisdiction while Cobb PD was on scene Marietta probably took the charges. If they don't locate the bad guy it will be turned over to the Sheriffs Office investigators to find him.

I know swat stormed stingers, there were snippers on the roof. I heard that many students thought the announcements to seek shelter was a joke. All the announcents said ”there has been a serious crime committed seek shelter.” So students were in danger and they would not follow directions from emergency personnel. It was chaotic.
Who will investigate

Look at that, Cobb Police are on the scene, not the sheriff's department. Oh yeah, that's because the the SO isn't really a full service law enforcement agency. They are manning the jail as the police look for the shooter.
Get it right

Actually, it was city of Marietta not Cobb PD. When the PD cannot find the shooter the warrant will then be turned over to the Cobb Co Sheriff's Office Fugitive unit for investigation and they will find the "shooter". You should really have your facts straight before you make an idiotic comment.
