The Toronto-based company focuses on student audiences through specifically designed professional productions and workshops. The Classical Theatre Project has performed for more than half a million audience members in Canada and the United States.
Charles Roy, director and adapter, said, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a wonderfully timeless piece. This adaptation in particular focuses on relating the story of Jim and Huck Finn to today’s audience. The play is fast-paced, touching, funny and really helps to educate students about the importance of thinking for themselves.”
The story, written by Mark Twain, has a Southern, pre-Civil War setting. Matt McDaniel will portray the title character, and Jove (no last name) will portray Jim, a slave and Huck’s friend. Gospel music will serve as the sound track of a story about friendship, tolerance and respect.
The production will feature a U.S.-based cast and a Canadian artistic team. The tour will stop in 11 states in more than 20 cities.
