2nd annual legion 304 race Aug. 18 in Acworth
ACWORTH — The second annual Legion 304 Run 5K is Aug. 18 at 7:30 a.m. at Dallas Landing in Acworth.
The day’s events will begin with the North Cobb High School JROTC Color Guard and singing of the National Anthem by Kennesaw Councilman Tim Killingsworth. Awards will be given for the top finishers in all the normal racing categories.
Online registration ends Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. Race-day registration will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Fees are $20 in advance and $25 on race day.
Participants can register at www.Active.com or at any Big Peach Running store in metro Atlanta. All funds will benefit Cobb County veterans and youth.
KSU Art Museum to show ‘Not What It Seems’
KENNESAW — The Kennesaw State University Art Museum presents “Not What it Seems,” an exhibition featuring the work of Mark Franchino, Frances Trombly and Ian Weaver, from Aug. 20 to Oct. 25 in the Fine Arts Gallery in the Joe Mack Wilson Building. There will be an opening reception, part of the fall grand opening reception, on Aug. 30 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition, intended to encourage audiences to examine the art with their mind and not just their eyes, will feature unexpected materials with varying degrees of illusionism. In the exhibition, the artists’ tackle complex artistic, personal and metaphysical puzzles that range from what people take for granted in material culture to the relationship between object and subject.
The Fine Arts Gallery in the Wilson Building is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Women’s safety seminar Saturday at Kennesaw Mountain
KENNESAW — Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will conduct a women’s safety seminar Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the visitor’s center. The program is free and open to the public.
Participants will learn about the battlefield and its environment, personal safety, and dangers within the battlefield. There will also be a time for questions and answers. For more information on the program, call (770) 427-4686 (ext. 0) between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
