In celebration of his 70th birthday, Don Wise and his wife, Carol, hosted a group of close friends for a long weekend at The Greenbrier Resort, a National Historic landmark in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., from July 19 to 23.

The group included neighbors from Marietta Country Club Estates: Terri and Bill Horne, Martha and Ken Farrar, Delinda and Charles Kilgore along with Laurel and Gene Kovach, Jane and Joe Williams, and Marie and Neal Sisson of Marietta, Susan and Ernie Jarvis of Canton, Sandra Kellner of Kennesaw, and Claudia and Don Hammett of The Villages, Fla.

In addition to enjoying the Greenbrier’s classic architecture, exquisite interior design, sculptured landscape, impeccable service and outstanding amenities (spa, casino, Bunker tour, not to mention the dining experiences with top-rated cuisine), the group managed to find time to play golf, tennis, croquet and other activities.

Don was honored at a birthday dinner on Saturday night and received wonderful gifts including a proclamation from the City of Marietta recognizing July 21 as official “Don Wise Day.” He was also honored with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on his 70th birthday. Wonderful memories were made and cherished friendships were celebrated.

Molly Stedman celebrated her upcoming marriage to Michael Metz at two recent bridal showers. On July 21, Melinda Bass and Katherine Bass hosted a kitchen shower. Chef Norma Gore demonstrated and prepared a delicious meal while guests enjoyed wine and champagne. The menu included crab cakes, pork tenderloin with figs and shrimp cocktail with fresh fruit salsa.

Molly’s sister, Emily, Cheryl Briscoe, Carolyn Chaffins, Linda Flournoy, Caroline Sierra and Lisa Thompson were among the guests attending.

On July 27, Cindy Woods feted the couple with Paint The Town on the Square shower. Guests created individual paintings while enjoying great food, wine and mimosas. Entertained guests included Molly’s aunts, Ginger Hays and Linda Oatman, along with Lila Brannen, Vicky Claussen, Kristen Hartman, Julia Janus, Bobbi Miller and Kim Patrick.

Molly’s mother, Cobb County Juvenile Court Judge Juanita Stedman, also attended both events. Her father is attorney Hugh Stedman. An Aug. 11 wedding is planned at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta.

Fashion spotlight of the week: Seen on the Marietta Square in a classic beige suit — local attorney Kevin Moore of Moore, Ingram, Johnson & Steele — brains and good looks, a winning combination.
