Bill Press’ column in Monday’s MDJ, “Praise the Lord — and stockpile the ammo!” is another liberal idea that will not get to the source of the problem. The “Good Book” promises the only plan that actually insures morality and peace for any society.
First: “Train up a child in the way he should go...” However, that has been taken out of our schools and substituted with situational ethics which we now see is not working.
Second: “Youngsters’ hearts are filled with rebellion, but punishment will drive it out of them.” However, corporal punishment has also been outlawed and many of our young people are out of control and many of them are in gangs.
Third: “Whoso (except for self defense) sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed.” However, capital punishment has effectively been outlawed because “sentence against an evil work is not executed (and) speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
Fourth: Outlawing the guns of law-abiding citizens will not solve the problem since “The hearts of the sons of men is ‘still’ set in them to do evil.” Until capital punishment is reinstated and speedily executed, we will have more and more Auroras and gang killings. Liberals say capital punishment doesn’t deter crime, but a friend of mine, while in prison, asked numerous inmates if they would commit the same crime again if they knew that they would be executed; all of them said that they definitely would not.
Fifth: Historian L.K. Gould wrote, “The greatest threat to our future is not bombs or missiles. I think it (our civilization) will die when we no longer care. Nineteen noble civilizations have died from within. It happened slowly in the quiet and dark when no one was aware.”
With the apathy and hopelessness being expressed in our society today, we could be speeding down the same road, making it the 20th one.
