The Kennesaw Police Department will have public safety vehicles on display at Swift-Cantrell Park, 3140 Old Hwy 41, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will also be crime prevention information and handouts for kids from Target.
“We would like for people to band together in their neighborhoods to show the criminals that they refuse to be victims,” Kennesaw Officer Scott Luther said.
Acworth is promoting NNO in several neighborhoods, where police will mingle with citizens at block parties. Police will give out safety information, Target volunteers will give out goody bags and water, and there will be games for children.
The participating neighborhoods in Acworth are Lake Park, Grove Park, Creekside, Marina Trace, Lake Acworth Village and Huddlestone Bridge.
“It’s a good way to facilitate communication between the police department and the citizens,” Acworth Officer Mark Cheatham said.
Along with the Kennesaw Police and Acworth Police, NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and will involve more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
“This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity,” NATW Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said. “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.”
The Cobb County and Marietta police departments are not hosting NNO events this year.
