KENNESAW — Two Kennesaw parents remain in the Cobb County Jail on charges of leaving their young children at home alone while they attended a party nearby.

Sean Wayne Grussing, 23, and Courtney Rene Tench, 18, were both arrested June 29 on two counts of misdemeanor contributing to the deprivation of a minor. Tench was also charged with one count of misdemeanor possession or purchase of alcohol by a minor.

They remain in the Cobb County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Officer Scott Luther with Kennesaw Police said an officer was leaving the Old South Village Mobile Home Park in the 2600 block of South Main Street in Kennesaw when he saw a 22-month-old child standing in the middle of the road.

“The child was crying and asking for his mother,” Luther said. “The officer picked up the child and walked around to see if anybody else was looking for him.”

After noticing the door open on one of the mobile homes in the neighborhood, the officer went to the home, announced himself and learned that no one was inside except for another child, approximately 6 days old, who was sitting in a car seat crying.

The warrant states that the 6-day-old child had been left for over 45 minutes during which it was time for him to eat.

“As they were about to exit the trailer a female comes up and wanted to know what they were doing there,” Luther said. “She said she was down at a friends house for five or 10 minutes … the story changed a few times to eventually an hour or two hours without her kids.”

Luther said Tench told the officers that the children had fallen asleep while she was at a neighbor’s home so she took them back to her house hoping they would stay asleep.

The warrant states that Tench was intoxicated when officers spoke to her and she admitted to drinking. She blew a .198 on the breathalyzer test.

“We did call DFCS and apparently they had been out there earlier that day on a complaint,” Luther said. “I’m not sure what the complaint was. They took the children into protective custody.”

Seriously? 6 days old and 22 months left alone? These children need to be permanently removed from these parents care. The mom is 18 with 2 children, fine example of children having children. I wouldn't be surprised if her mom wasn't in her very early 30's too. Sad, just so very sad at the irresponsibility of undeserving parents. The fact that they live in a trailer park is irrelevant.
DFCS fail!

So DFCS was there earlier in the day and left without doing anything. What was the complaint about earlier in the day? I am extremely familiar with DFCS and am constantly surprised by the children who are allowed to returned to very horrific environments. The biggest problem I see is a total lack of funding for more DFCS employees which causes the ones who work to have so many cases that they can't possibly know what is going on with each of them.

To that guy the other day that suggested our troops be put to work on the side of the road, I give you exhibit A of the trash that should be on a roadside work crew.

Put these maggots to work at hard labor forth with.

In a trailer park? That's shocking!

I'm sure the mom was just over at the weekly Shakespeare Recital in one of the other nearby trailers.

This will be cleared up shortly.
Are you for real?

These parents are idiots. But then again so are you. And you're an insufferable snob. There are plenty of good and hardworking people that live in trailer parks because they can't afford anything else. Oh, and by the way cupcake, I'm pretty certain that you haven't read any Shakespeare, Chaucer or other great writers because you are too busy looking down your nose.
