McClure principal retires after 32 years in Cobb schools

On June 3, a retirement party took place for McClure Middle School Principal Susan Wing, who has spent 32 years with Cobb County schools. She has worked in various middle schools as a teacher or in administration including Garrett, Dodgen, Floyd, Smitha, Campbell, Lost Mountain and McClure.

The celebration at MMS began with a program in the auditorium. Assistant principals Dr. Judy Hays and Ann Sheffield made introductions. Several guest speakers spoke about Susan’s journey. Sherry Seabolt made a presentation in behalf of Parent Teacher Student Association. Area 5 Assistant Superintendent James Carter made a presentation along with retired Cobb County administrator Janet Peeler.

The program concluded with the dedication of the Susan Wing Atrium.

A reception followed in the atrium with punch, cake and various desserts. Music was provided by the McClure Middle String Quartet. Among those attending were Susan’s husband, Andy Wing; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Keith Harmeyer; granddaughters, Audrey and Amy Curtis; parents, Sue and James Griffin; along with Robert Arnold, Debra and Dwayne Carter, Jim Carter, Marianna Foxwell, Paul Gandolfo, Scott Hausdorf, Judy and Howdy Hays, Janet and Jim Peeler, Sherry and Craig Seabolt, Ann and Mike Sheffield, D.J. Siniard, Paula Smith, Holly Sporidis, Diane Williams as well as numerous teachers and staff from MMS.

The Youth Celebration Team from St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Marietta entertained audiences in Tybee Island from June 5 to 7.

Every summer, St. Andrew organizes a variety of mission trips specifically for its youth group including a Youth Celebration Team Tour, YouthWorks Mission Trip, Appalachia Service Project Mission Trip, and a Youth Praise Band Tour.

Lisa Springer, St. Andrew UMC’s director of youth ministries, accompanied the youth on their Tybee Island tour, as will the group’s co-directors, Carol Holmes and Laurel Resendez. The youth and adults going on this trip also include Kirklin Dowdy, Kaydee Gallant, Jennifer Holmes, Glenna Ingle, Haley Owenby, Rachel Resendez, Olivia Resendez, Jessica Siragusa, Rachel Woods, Elizabeth Zavodny and Meredith Bass.
