James Eubanks guest column: Marietta parking solutions should include parking meters, deck …
Night not Day — I really don’t understand all the fuss about the parking problem around the Square during the DAY. If I have business at one of the Cobb gov’t buildings, I pay the $5 and park in the deck, since I usually don’t know how long it will take. If I am visiting a restaurant or store on the Square during the DAY, I can usually find a space on the Square or in the lot next to the Marietta FBC Family Life Center. My parking problem comes at NIGHT. The spaces around the Square are usually full at night by 8 on Friday and Saturday nights. I do not like to park in the deck at night, because it is enclosed and there are more opportunities for crime. What about a security patrol in the county parking deck on Friday and Saturday nights?
Ideaman — Why not have some college/high school students perform surveys or observations of just who uses the spaces and for what reason they park in the spaces to collect data? A good class project and serves to reveal parking space needs. For example, how many people use the Square during the day how many go to the courthouse, how many go to stores, etc...
Voice of Reason — Stop issuing speeding tickets from speed traps in Cobb County and you might solve the parking problems on the Square!
Anonymous — Why don’t the merchant groups who seem to be yelling about how badly their customers are being treated band together and buy/build a parking garage of their own? You know: put their money where their mouths are. I don’t understand why the city/county needs to be building any more parking garages on the taxpayer dime.
EMC plaintiff seeks seat on co-op’s board …
Cobb EMC Member — What better way for the six derivative plaintiffs to complete their five year efforts of helping reform Cobb EMC than by supporting the candidacy of Tripper Sharp. Sharp can bring volumes to the table of brand new and inexperienced board members. There aren’t enough words to say what a valuable asset he will be for us paying eclectic members.
The new EMC board — With the new EMC board installed, Sharp included, there will be enough new directors in place with both the knowledge and background, to not permit one director to push his agenda.
I Agree — Tripper should run! Being an original plaintiff he has the background and the knowledge of the corruption that has taken place. I would feel comfortable knowing he was at the helm!
InformedinAcworth — As someone not born yesterday, I say certainly Mr. Sharp has a motive. He certainly should have and he put himself on the line time and time again. I know him as a dedicated reformer who gives time and more to right the many wrongs within this organization. Go forth Mr. Sharp, knowledgeable members will overwhelmingly support you.
Really — Mr. Sharp if you truly want to see a new board that can make a positive impact don’t destroy what you and the others fought for by doing this. If you are elected there will always be a hint of this lawsuit being a means for you to get on the board for a possible ulterior motive.
ActiveinAcworth — Sounds to me like a close ally of a high up executive at EMC who certainly does not wish Mr. Sharp, who is well versed and knowledgeable about the dirty deeds there, to be on his Board. Oh, he may also be an attorney and/or a PR person.
