LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Police say a Southern California man has been shot to death while trying to rescue his father during an attempted street robbery.

Los Angeles police detectives say three young men fled in a white Mitsubishi Montero sport utility vehicle after Monday’s 6:45 p.m. shooting outside a North Hollywood home.

Officer Karen Rayner says a 60-year-old man was walking toward his son’s home when the suspects confronted him in a robbery attempt. The man screamed for help and the man’s 35-year-old son ran from inside the house.

Rayner tells City News Service that the son, whose name hasn’t been released, chased the suspects and was shot before they got away in the SUV.

Nobody has been arrested.
