EDITOR’S NOTE: Below is a selection of the responses from readers of MDJOnline.com in reaction to recent MDJ stories.

Some say TSPLOST forum was ‘staged’ event …

BTN wrote — Considering this was apparently the best attended forum on the subject, perhaps the support for this is greater than we have been led to believe?

RegionalFarce wrote — I am all for regional connectivity particularly as it relates to rail transit. However the rail construction projects that are currently on the TSPLOST project list do very little if anything to accomplish that.

Totally surprised wrote — Since it is 100 percent obvious that no Cobb Countian who lives north of Windy Hill is in favor of this horrific drain on our economy, it seems unfortunately very clear this time that our elected officials do NOT have our best interests at heart. I for one, as a Kennesaw voter, will vote against our current mayor for his part in creating this travesty.

NO to Bad wrote — When a plan is proposed that benefits many citizens and not just big business, developers, and the Chambers, then you will see citizens for it.

Be Careful wrote — I guarantee you a vast majority of Cobb‘s population doesn’t know a TSPLOST from a hole in the ground. They will see “1 cent tax for transportation improvements” on the ballot next year and think that’s a pretty good idea and vote yes.

Stacked yes wrote — There is nothing in here to help Cobb citizens but we will have to pay the bill!

URKiddingRight? wrote — Staged event!!! I am shocked, shocked I tell you!!!!

MAY-RETTA SURVIVOR wrote — Buses would certainly cost less and, unlike the rail plan, those utilizing the busses would be the only ones who would pay for their use. Why charge the majority for something they will never use ... merely to benefit the minority of those who will?

From Kennesaw area wrote — I agree with the “staged” event headline. It appeared that too many people attending this event knew each other. Was wondering if they got paid too? If so, to whom can I send my bill?

Cobb Resident wrote — I’m against it! I don’t care to pay for something I will never use since it won’t remotely come near our home.

About Jobs wrote — I’ve been to several of these events and to say last night’s event was staged and the others were not is misleading. At the first session, they had to bus in Dunwoody Tea Party people — all 7 of them. Honestly, last night’s event was probably the least staged — and most informative — of all. The reality is, most people aren’t following this important issue — yet.

Passing the referendum will be a huge boost to attracting and retaining jobs in Cobb and the region. Not passing it will greatly hinder Cobb County’s ability to do so.

LookClosely wrote — The survey of the members of the Chamber was conducted sometime in June. Well before the project list was finalized and published. It would be interesting to see if a majority of members still favor that particular project. I challenge (the chamber) to update the survey!!

Mike Holzknecht wrote — I’ve been to a TSPLOST forum where it looked like a bunch of 1st graders, high on Halloween candy, were in control. Last night the teacher was in the room. Thank you ARC and panel members for returning decorum, facts, and honesty to this important discussion

Acworth1 wrote — You’d think with all this talk about rail going to Acworth that Acworth would have sent an elected official from the city to attend! Surely they should care about this!

Stats Guy wrote — If you aggregate the attendance and opinions from all of the forums, you still wind up with an apparent net majority against THIS transit plan. This was a setup, pure and simple.

SG68 wrote — I have to admit I was somewhat surprised at the level of support that proponents of the TSPLOST received from the audience (applause). I suspect it was generously “salted” with Cobb County and Chamber employees who were allowed to leave work early and grab most of the seating in the meeting room. It had all the markings of a tightly controlled, orchestrated propaganda event for supporters of the TSPLOST.

We Won wrote — You TSPLOST and MARTA critics can poo poo it all you want, but business development clearly won last night. Pro tax folks did turn out their supporters, and your anti-MARTA group was a no show… “Stacked audience” or not, pro MARTA folks won the day. TSPLOST supporters be on notice, you lost this battle, and likely the war.

Unglaublich wrote — Get ready Cobb. The fix is in. My guess is the Obama White House couldn’t have orchestrated a better meeting.

Homeownernextdoor wrote — The fact that the moderator got to select the questions from the note cards nullifies the supposed support expressed. I am embarrassed for our county.

Cobb County non Tea wrote — I guess when you don’t have a tea party candidate leading the forums the regular people of Cobb come out to show there is plenty of support for TSPLOST. To call it staged is an insult the majority of Cobb residents.

Imeanwhatever wrote — If people in south Cobb want this boondoggle so much, let them pay for it. For the rest of Cobb County, we don’t want it. It doesn’t help us. why travel through traffic down I-75 past the Loop and get to Cumberland (where traffic normally lightens up) only to get out of your car and wait for a stinking train to come pick you up?

FROM TEXAS wrote — This is just a jobs package for the big money developers’ they will tear down Cobb Parkway and put up high rises all over the Cumberland area. Do you believe the guys in the $1,000 dollars suits or people like Ron Sifen? We told you to vote for Larry Savage but you didn’t listen, we told you to vote down the SPLOST but you didn’t listen, so now you see what you’re getting.

Bob Bummer wrote — The county eliminated bus routes because they did not meet the productivity levels they want to achieve. What happens if the light rail does not meet the productivity levels after it is operating? It is not like a bus and can just be taken out of service because it will end up costing a billion dollars you can be sure that.
