The Florida Times-Union reports that fire crews trying a burnout Sunday on the western side of the Okefenokee Swamp had to come off the fire line because of a storm.
Fire officials say there are now nearly 1,400 people assigned to battle the large Honey Prairie Fire around the swamp. That fire had grown to nearly 1,700 acres by Sunday afternoon.
The Race Pond Fire has grown to around 21,000 acres and is now 65 percent contained. Although the fires have been relatively inactive, authorities warn that dry conditions expected in the next few days could make the fires worse.
