CUMBERLAND - Barely a month after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued instructions for preparing for a zombie apocalypse, the undead will be shuffling into Cobb County.

On Monday, the AMC series "The Walking Dead" will be filming scenes near the Cobb Galleria Centre for its second season. The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved road closures on Cobb Galleria Parkway from Akers Mill Road to Cumberland Boulevard; on Riverwood Parkway, from Cobb Galleria Parkway to Cobb Parkway; and at Cobb Parkway and Riverwood Parkway.

The closures are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The county will set up two message boards, one in each direction, on Cobb Galleria Parkway alerting commuters of the closures and of a detour.

Officer Mike Bowman of the Cobb County Police Department said drivers can expect zombies and simulated gunfire in addition to the traffic delays.

Nominated for Best Drama at the 2011 Golden Globes, "The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln as Sheriff Rick Grimes, who awakes from a coma to find the world devastated by a zombie outbreak.

One of my college students asked me what I thought about this whole zombie thing...she thought they were real zombies! I had to pretend like I thought they were real at first too until I found out it was a tv show/movie so I wouldn't hurt her feelings...

I like Zombies. They are generally nicer than most folks in the public (except the eating you part). They dont drive crazy, curse at you when they screw up, walk around with their brains stuck in their cell phone, cut you off in conversation to catch a text, or expect the world to revolve around them. Sure they smell a little bit, but who doesn't in this weather.

I think the school board would make perfect zombie extras but of late anyone affiliated with unions would be well suitable.....

Wow. No wonder the rest of the nation is pulling ahead of Georgia in commerce. The residents here aren't willing to deal with a minor inconvenience for a day. Get over it folks.

They won't have to do much to that area to get it ready for filming. It looks as if an apocalypse hit there already.

How fun, too bad some of y'all have no sense of humor. Film crews employ lots of folks and spend lots of cash.

They should be filmong around South Cobb Drive or Six Flags. They could save a ton on paying extras.

@hotinatlanta

I'm very familiar with the area and there are dozens of roads that you could take around the filming.

Yes, it is an inconvenience and a serious waste of time and expensive gas for all of us who live and work in the area. One day with these people here does not bring in income or anything else. Why don't they film down at the old Lakewood place that was just purchased for that purpose! All this junk on TV (vampire, werewolf & zombie shows) went out with the Night of the Living Dead movies!

Seems as though many here in Cobb do not have to get into custom and or character to be in this movie. By the looks of the posting here many have no brains in the first place......they need brains must have brains yum brains. whoops Cobb County is not the place to find brains. Those of you who may be inconvenienced by a road closer for just a day or too do not seem to realize the over all good this will do not only Cobb County but the State as a whole. Grow some brains will ya and quit acting like Zombies.

NOT COOL COBB COUNTY! I guess those of us who work for a living just have to deal with trying to find another way to work and use up more gas!!! Why don't have have to be restricted to doing this on weekends and nights? I'm not a happy camper on this one.

Some of the acting is lacking, but a great show! I wish I had time to be an extra!
