FORT GORDON, Ga. (AP) _ About 125 soldiers prepared to depart from Fort Gordon to Afghanistan amid reminders that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been killed.

The members of Alpha Company, 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion, prepared for departure on Monday, hours after learning that bin Laden had been killed in a raid on his hideout.

Lt. Col. Keith Garwold told the troops there’s still a lot of work to be done in Afghanistan as they prepared to board three charter buses.

Pfc. Tommie Culp, a 19-year-old soldier making his first deployment, said it’s kind of weird that bin Laden was killed on the day of the unit’s deployment. And he added that there will be a lot of turmoil in Afghanistan as a result of bin Laden’s death.
