MARIETTA - A Marietta Police officer shot and killed an apparent armed robber early this morning at the Autumn View Apartment Complex on Franklin Road after the man had taken a hostage and refused to put down his weapon when police instructed him to do so, Marietta Police said.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police received a 911 call alerting them that three men were armed and attempting to rob a couple in the parking lot at the apartment complex, Marietta Police Officer Jenny Murphy said. Both Marietta and Cobb police responded to the scene.

According to police, the suspects forced a man and a woman into their apartment at gunpoint. When Marietta Police arrived they made contact with one of the armed suspects, who had taken a hostage. When the suspect refused to put down his weapon as instructed by police, an officer shot and killed him, Murphy said.

Police arrested the two other suspects, and neither of the victims was injured, Murphy said. They are not yet releasing the names of any of the suspects or victims and Murphy said the investigation was ongoing.

The Marietta Police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, which Murphy said is typical procedure.

Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to contact Marietta Police Detective Moeller 770-794-2366 or call the Marietta Tip Line 770-794-6990.

I don't think anyone is cheering because Marietta PD killed an innocent person. If it were you who were being robbed and being taken hostage, would you want MPD to take their time and try to talk him down? Would you want to just stay crouched and scared while they try to talk sweet nothings to someone who is armed? You should put yourself in the shoes of the police officer and the couple who had been robbed before you start spouting this non-sense. It didn't say the perp was young, old, black or white and you've already assumed he is a young black kid that didn't mean no harm. What if he was a middle-age white man, asian man, hispanic man, black man? Would you still feel that "THE LOW DOWN MPD IS KILLIN OUR YOUTH"? Everything isn't always about black and white in this fair nation of ours. Sometimes people are just bad, regardless of their color, and they do bad things to harm others. That is the real deal 'My family'.

Maybe the armed robber shouldn't have been breaking into an apartment and taking hostages?????

And To My family... see my above comment. Nobody is perfect???? Those low lifes could have killed the innocent couple they were robbing!!!! But we are supposed to sit back and thin, "oh well.. nobody is perfect.. let's just let everyone behave however the won't too. Robbing someone at gunpoint is no big deal." You are an idiot.

A short and happy story:

When the suspect refused to put down his weapon as instructed by police, an officer shot and killed him, Murphy said.

Sounds fair to me!

I love it when the Police save the lives of innocent people while at the same time saving us taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in prosecution and prison costs. One out of three ain't bad. Good job guys. Huge KUDOs!
