MARIETTA - WellStar Health System on Tuesday announced another administration shakeup, saying the executive in charge of the organization's 350 physicians, along with its top information official, have left the company.

In a statement released to the Journal, WellStar spokesperson Michelle Robinson said: "WellStar Health System has accepted the resignation of Richard Lopes, M.D., senior vice president and president of the WellStar Medical Group, effective March 21. By mutual agreement, Ron Strachan, senior vice president and chief information officer, has also left the organization effective March 21. As with all personnel matters, no further details will be provided."

No mention of the changes was made during WellStar's last Board of Trustees meeting, on March 3.

In September, WellStar's board fired WellStar CEO Dr. Greg Simone. At the time, board chairman Randall Bentley, a Marietta attorney, said only that "it was time for a change."

Simone received a severance agreement - including two years of salary plus retirement and other compensation - of $2.76 million. A statement released by WellStar on Sept. 2 also noted that the system had chosen not to renew the contract of Bonnie Wilson, WellStar's executive vice president and general counsel, leading some to speculate about a possible romantic relationship between Simone and Wilson, an accusation Simone dismissed as "a vicious rumor."

In January WellStar hired health care attorney and Marietta resident Leo Reichert as the system's new executive vice president and general counsel.

WellStar spokesman Keith Bowermaster said while the work responsibilities of Lopes and Strachan had ended, they will remain employed until June 20. Severance terms are yet to be determined but will be consistent with their respective employment contracts, he said.

Lopes was hired on April 5, 2010, while Strachan was hired in March 31, 2008. Strachan earned a salary of $288,766 a year, while Lopes earned $562,660 a year.

Their offices were at the WellStar Administration Building on Sandy Plains Road in Marietta.

WellStar has retained a search firm to find a replacement for Simone.

"The position is now being marketed nationwide, and we hope to have candidates within the next few months," Bowermaster said. "WellStar's goal is to have a new president and CEO in place by the end of June."

WellStar's interim CEO, Jim Budzinski, who earns an annual salary of $444,267, has applied for the position, Bowermaster said.

Thank you Jeff W., for reminding the readers that yes, Simone was FIRED.

Also known as Terminate. Ax. Let Go. Dismiss. Give the Boot.

The same with Richard Lopes and the CIO guy.

When you do wrong things, you are fired. Kudos to the WellStar Board and to the interim leadership for keeping the best interests of our citizens in mind and cleaning house. If more are to fall, that's fine as well. Better to have a thin, but honest leadership team, then to have it fat, happy, arrogant and in cahoots with each other.
NOT ARROGANT

Jim Budzinski does not have an arrogant bone in his body. If anything, he is too nice to be CEO. He's actually a nice, sensitive man with heart.

Back off name calling unless you personally know what is going on.

Back to the article: Simone gets fired, and is rewarded with almost $3 million, while system wide there are cuts of funds needed for patient care - if the crooks at Cobb Energy ever get put away, our district attorney needs to look at the looting of our county health care system that has been going on since the start of Wellstar.

"Obama Care Operation?" I will bet Wst watches Faux News and thinks Palin and Bachmann are viable presidential candidates! Wow ... some people's view of the world never ceases to amaze me.

What a ridiculous statement by WST, I guess Obama is the reason for everything that goes wrong in your life but here in the real world there are real concrete reasons for at least one of these terminations. The CIO was arrogant and made the statement recently after terminating a fine outstanding employee that "in every single instance where I have had to terminate an employee it has worked out for the best for the employee and the organization". Well I guess he will get to know that first hand now. I take no pleasure in seeing anyone lose their job but when you treat people callously then you have to expect that you will reap what you sow.

In regards to the comment posted by WST, linking this personnel issue to President Obama is insanity at its best.

In truth, it's much more closely connected to Michelle Bachman. or Charlie Sheen. or Snookie. Or, how about Buzz Lightyear?

WST, This does not involve President Obama anymore than it involves you.

As they say with rubberneckers on the highway, "move on people. move on."

WellStar is looking more and more like a Chicago run operation.
