Tucked away above shops on the Marietta Square, the Vineyard Cafe & Gift Shop at 21 W. Park Square offers delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. Vineyard Cafe, with its picturesque views overlooking Glover Park, offers a unique setting to enjoy its tasty delights.

At Vineyard Cafe, the food is made on the premises. "I think when people bite into our foods, they taste that freshness. Fresh, just made - that's what makes (the food) stand out," said Felicia Prezzano, the owner of the cafe as well as the gift shop located on the main level.

Not only is the food fresh, it is original. "We try to take the ordinary sandwich and make it extraordinary by adding something that no one can figure out what it is a lot of times," she said.

Prezzano opened the cafe in November 2007. She moved to Cobb County from Long Island, N.Y., with her husband, Darryl.

She said Vineyard Cafe turns something common, such as a turkey sandwich, into something unique by adding a special spread and serving it on a raisin bread.

"It's comfort food kicked up a notch," the Powder Springs resident said.

Vineyard Cafe's chicken salad - made with freshly cooked chicken breasts, cranberries and almonds in a homemade creamy dressing and served on a buttery croissant - is a house favorite. "I guess we make anywhere from 20 to 30 pounds of chicken salad every day. That's how popular it is," said Prezzano.

One of the cafe's most unusual sides is their sweet potato salad made with sweet potatoes, golden raisins and special dressing. "It's very different and very tasty. We get a lot of eyebrows when we tell customers how it's made until they try it," she said.

The desserts and homemade soups change with the seasons, in keeping with the uniqueness of the cafe. Their coconut cream bread pudding with butter rum sauce won Taste of Marietta last year. "I've never had anybody have it and not like it," Prezzano said.

At any time in the space that was once a tea room, guests can choose from any of the 30 tea selections served in a French press or have a "Tea Party on the Spot."

"(Vineyard Cafe) has a homey atmosphere. We try to make it feel welcoming," she said.

"I spend more time here than I do in my home, so this is like my home to me. When you have somebody walk in, you never ignore them. You open the door and welcome them. We treat our guests that way," Prezzano said.

For original food in a unique place, Vineyard Cafe is worthwhile experience.
