MARIETTA — The rest of the United States will soon get the opportunity to learn what high school football fans in Cobb County already know.

Walton offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow can open holes in the defense, and running back Tyren Jones can definitely run through them.

Kublanow and Jones will get to show their skills, along with 88 of the other best high school football players in the country, when they play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The players were presented with their jerseys Thursday in front of the Walton student body during a pep rally at Raider Valley.

“It’s definitely an honor and a blessing,” said the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Kublanow, who has committed to play at Georgia. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

The 5-9, 190-pound Jones said he would love the opportunity to repeat the performance he had the first time he played in a game at the Alamodome.

“I played in the eighth-grade All-Star game there,” the Alabama commitment said. “And I was the MVP.”

So far in 2012, Jones is playing like an MVP. In four games, he has run for 936 yards and 11 touchdowns.

If Jones wins the title as the game’s top player, he would join the likes of current NFL players Chris Wells, Terrelle Pryor and DeSean Jackson, as well as former quarterback Vince Young.

Other notable players to have played in the game include Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush and a pair of and current Georgia stars — quarterback Aaron Murray and linebacker Jarvis Jones.

Walton coach Rocky Hidalgo said the honor of playing in the game is not just good for his pair of blue-chip recruits, but for the whole school as well.

“It’s the premier all-star game in the country,” Hidalgo said. “It’s a great opportunity for them. It’s great for the program from a visibility standpoint, and it’s a neat deal for the whole school.”

Representatives from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl are currently on a tour of the country to present the invited players with their jerseys. Kublanow and Jones became the fifth and sixth players from Georgia to be added to the game’s roster, joining Newnan’s Tray Matthews, West Laurens’ Johnny O’Neal, Cedar Grove’s Johnathon McCrary and Peach County’s Demarcus Robinson.
